Portrait of a woman
The work depicts the portrait of a young woman, surrounded by a gloomy background. The way the darkness surrounds the woman, together with the shadows on her form and the manner with which she avoids the viewer with her eyes, emanate a troublesome atmosphere. The only highlights of the composition are her rosy cheeks and the few spots of light on her face and on her loose bluish shirt.
